While speaking in a recent interview with Nadia Khan, Tabish Hashmi shared his perspective on viral television clips and production practices used for ratings. He said that some moments from TV shows appear humorous while others feel uncomfortable or “cringe.” He also criticised the use of arranged audience calls, saying it does not reflect grace or authenticity in live programming.
Tabish added that while he understands the pressure of ratings and competition in the television industry, certain practices done purely for viewership do not seem appropriate. He also noted that television hosts are well-paid, but that should not justify compromising content quality or credibility.
His remarks quickly circulated on social media and drew strong reactions, particularly from television host and actress Javeria Saud, who was recently associated with allegations of using planted calls during her Ramadan transmission.
Javeria Saud responded firmly on Instagram, rejecting Tabish Hashmi’s criticism. Without naming him directly at first, she referred to his comment and defended her work in Ramadan broadcasts. She suggested that he himself relies on humour throughout the year to maintain ratings, and questioned his criticism during the month when other shows gain higher viewership.
She further stated that if another program performs better during Ramadan, it should not be taken negatively. In her closing remarks, she used a proverb implying that criticism goes both ways and advised him to continue his work throughout the year, as he already does.
