Lahore prepares for new school for autistic kids

Plans are underway to build a modern school in Lahore specifically for children with autism.

The Department of Special Education has submitted a proposal for the project, known as Project Concept-1 (PC1), to the Provincial Development Board for approval. The school, which is expected to cost about Rs673.5 million, will be built on a 26-kanal 10-marla plot in the Township area.

The Pakistan Autism Society estimates that around 350,000 children in Pakistan are living with autism, while the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that globally, 2.7 million people under the age of 18 are affected.

This new school in Lahore will cater to 200 children with autism, offering them specialized care and support designed to meet their specific needs.

With the estimated monthly cost of educating each child exceeding Rs39,000, the project demonstrates the government’s dedication to providing inclusive education for children with autism.
