LAYYAH: A meeting of the District Cotton Management Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar, where targets for cotton cultivation and measures to enhance production in the district were reviewed in detail.
The meeting was attended by officials of relevant departments, pesticide dealers, and representatives of progressive farmers. Participants were briefed on the current situation of cotton cultivation, set targets, and ongoing challenges.
Officials informed the meeting that a target of 5,000 acres had been fixed for early cotton cultivation in the district, out of which 75 per cent has already been achieved. Overall, cotton is planned to be cultivated on 73,000 acres during the current season.
The deputy commissioner directed that the cultivation targets must be achieved in full (100 per cent) under all circumstances. He stressed the need for effective measures to ensure fair distribution of canal water, particularly to tail-end farmers.
He further instructed that timely availability of quality agricultural inputs, including certified seed, fertiliser and pesticides, must be ensured to facilitate better crop yield. Agriculture department officials were also directed to remain active in the field and provide continuous guidance to farmers.
Asif Ali Dogar said cotton plays a vital role in the national economy and increasing its production is a matter of urgent importance.
The meeting was informed that there is no shortage of seed, fertiliser or pesticides in the district, while farmers are being continuously guided on Bt cotton cultivation.
