Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing initiative has achieved another major milestone, with more than 166,000 interest-free loans disbursed to help low-income families build their own homes.
According to official figures, over Rs215.76 billion has been released under the programme for housing construction. As a result, 105,594 homes have been completed, enabling thousands of families to move into permanent residences.
Construction is currently underway on 28,453 additional homes, while work on another 32,048 houses is expected to begin soon. Officials also reported that more than Rs14.5 billion in loan repayments has already been recovered.
The programme has received 1,211,954 applications, reflecting strong public interest in the government’s interest-free housing finance initiative. The scheme has now become one of Pakistan’s largest low-cost housing finance programmes.
Data released by the programme’s spokesperson shows that 91,434 men and 14,007 women have completed the construction of their homes through the initiative. In addition, 23 transgender beneficiaries have also received support under the scheme.
