LGS 55 main girls win Global Future Space Scholars’ meet 2026 in Beijing

An all-girls team from Lahore Grammar School (LGS) 55 Main has brought a major international honour to Pakistan after securing the Global Finals Championship at the 2026 Global Future Space Scholars’ Meet (GFSSM) Final Round in Beijing, China.

LAHORE: An all-girls team from Lahore Grammar School (LGS) 55 Main has brought a major international honour to Pakistan after securing the Global Finals Championship at the 2026 Global Future Space Scholars’ Meet (GFSSM) Final Round in Beijing, China.

The Pakistani students emerged as the overall winners of the international competition, competing against teams from different countries and demonstrating their abilities in science, engineering, innovation, business, design and problem-solving.

The achievement also saw the LGS 55 Main delegation collect multiple team and individual awards during the competition, highlighting the students’ strong performance across various challenges.

The championship-winning team consisted of Alina Imran, Amna Ahmed, Areeba Shakeel, Eshaal Haroon, Fatima Farukh, Mariam Abdul Rahman, Shanzay Umar, Sheza Imran, Umayma Fatima, Wania Saqib, Zahra Fatima and Zainab Tahir.

The students were accompanied by teachers Amina Sabahat and Nadeem Anwar, who provided mentorship and guidance throughout the international event.

Space, Engineering and Innovation Challenge

GFSSM is an international competition designed to expose school students to practical challenges involving space science, engineering, technology and entrepreneurship. The event combines technical knowledge with creativity, teamwork, communication and business-oriented thinking.

The 2026 GFSSM Final Round was held in Beijing from August 13 to 17, bringing together around 260 students from nine countries. The broader competition featured participants from more than 17 countries and regions.

One of the key features of the final round was its multinational team format. Students from different countries were brought together and assigned to teams that operated like virtual companies.

Participants were given a demanding challenge requiring them to develop a proposal for a space-related project within a limited timeframe. Teams had approximately 24 hours to work on their concepts before presenting their proposals to an international judging panel.

The students were required not only to develop technically viable ideas but also to demonstrate creativity, effective communication, teamwork and the ability to defend their proposals before judges.

Pakistan Secures Two Major Positions

Pakistan’s participation extended beyond the winning LGS 55 Main team, with students from several Lahore Grammar School campuses taking part in the competition.

Teams representing LGS 55 Main, LGS 14-C and LGS Phase 5 competed at the international event, giving Pakistani students an opportunity to showcase their capabilities on a global platform.

LGS Phase 5 also delivered an impressive performance, finishing as second runner-up, equivalent to third place. The third-place ranking was shared with three other international teams.

The LGS Phase 5 delegation included Pareesa Zaid, Muhammad Raamish Nauman, Muhammad Rafay Ammar, Ibrahim Lodhi, Amna Qureshi, Umair Alam, Zoya Hasan Tariq, Alina Binte Amir, Isra Ahmed Bashir, Safdar Zaman, Muhammad Ahmad and Ali Khurram.

The performance of both teams marks a significant achievement for Pakistan at the 2026 GFSSM finals. While LGS 55 Main claimed the top position, LGS Phase 5 also secured a place among the leading teams.

The results highlight the growing participation of Pakistani students in international science, technology and space-related competitions and demonstrate their ability to compete successfully in multidisciplinary challenges alongside students from around the world.
