Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch has criticised the country’s existing system, describing it as outdated and deteriorating, while calling on the government to address the growing economic hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
In a statement, Baloch said people wanted practical solutions to their problems, but rising electricity and gas prices had become unbearable for households already struggling with inflation and the rising cost of living.
He stressed that the government must take immediate steps to provide relief to the public and review policies that continue to increase the financial burden on consumers. According to Baloch, repeated increases in utility prices have made it increasingly difficult for people to manage their household expenses.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also strongly criticised the petroleum levy, calling it a form of government extortion. He argued that the government should reconsider the levy and end policies that place additional pressure on consumers through higher fuel prices.
Baloch further demanded an end to what he described as the burden imposed by independent power producers (IPPs). He called for measures to address the costs associated with power generation agreements, which he said contribute to the difficulties faced by electricity consumers.
He maintained that the government must prioritise public welfare, reduce the cost of essential services and introduce meaningful reforms to address the country’s economic challenges.
Baloch’s remarks reflect growing public concerns over high electricity and gas bills, fuel costs and the overall cost of living. He urged the authorities to take concrete action rather than allowing economic pressures to continue worsening the lives of ordinary citizens.
