According to reports, he gained worldwide recognition during the Africa Cup of Nations by standing motionless throughout matches while dressed as a statue of Congo’s slain national leader Patrice Lumumba.
On Tuesday, he attended the World Cup match between DR Congo and Colombia. Due to Ebola-related isolation regulations, Michel had been unable to attend Congo’s first World Cup match.
At the stadium, he took his place on a platform behind the Congolese team bench and assumed his trademark pose—raising his right arm and remaining completely still and silent resembling a statue throughout the match.
