Maryam Nawaz’s flight to London

As soon as the court approved the restoration of Maryam Nawaz’s passport, she boarded a flight to London to meet with her father, PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif, and brothers, who were residing in London for years. Nawaz Sharif left Pakistan in 2019 for medical treatment in the United Kingdom, initially for eight weeks, and never returned. The buzz of the town is Maryam Nawaz’s court relief, which ordered officials to restore her passport, which she had forfeited in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case in 2019. Maryam Nawaz deserved a tour to England to meet the family members as she has suffered a lot at the hand of endless litigation initiated by the National Accountability Bureau. She applied for a passport, but the court did not take up her plea. Once her conviction in reference to the Avenfield apartment was overturned by the Islamabad High Court, her case for permission to go abroad was strong enough to pave the way for taking an overseas fight.

The next step for Maryam is to contest the upcoming election. If things go as they are going now, it seems Nawaz Sharif’s smooth return to the country is just a matter of time. A smooth return means that Nawaz Sharif will not be arrested on his arrival in Pakistan. The government has rightly made the NAB toothless as its litigation proved to be a waste of time and resources. This also shows that there is no accountability mechanism in the country. The Avenfield apartments physically exist, and the Sharif family has not satisfied the public over the questions about their overseas properties.
