Measles outbreak claims four lives in Sujawal coastal village

In Talib Richo coastal village, situated approximately 10 kilometers from Jati town in Sujawal district, a measles outbreak has resulted in the loss of four lives. The news of the epidemic surfaced after local journalists were informed by social activists about the deteriorating situation.

The subsequent visit by journalists revealed alarming realities, prompting an emergency response throughout the district and shedding light on the inadequacies of both the administration and relevant authorities in providing essential facilities to remote communities.

Medical teams dispatched by District Health Officer Dr. Hanif Memon swiftly arrived in Talib Richo village upon learning about the outbreak. These teams have been actively assessing the severity of the situation.

Officials from the district health department attributed the outbreak to a lack of awareness, leading to the absence of vaccinations among children in remote areas, ultimately resulting in fatal consequences.

Efforts are now underway to establish anti-measles vaccination camps in the affected village and its vicinity to combat the spread of the disease effectively. Among the victims of the outbreak are four-year-old Gul Muhammad, three-year-old Anila (daughter of Qadir Richo), a two-month-old baby boy named Ahmed, and Azizulah.

A medical team from Taluka Hospital Jati visited the village, home to approximately 1200 residents, to examine children and their mothers. Some team members, speaking on condition of anonymity, highlighted the lack of access to clean water and unhygienic living conditions in the densely populated village as contributing factors to the outbreak.
