Meta launches affordable AI smart glasses starting at $299

California – American technology company Meta has introduced a new range of affordable smart glasses priced at $299 (£299).

According to a Forbes report, Meta has unveiled its new Meta Glasses, a move widely seen as an effort to strengthen its position in the smart-glasses market ahead of Apple. This marks the first time that Meta has launched smart glasses solely under its own brand name.

Previously, the company partnered with well-known eyewear brands such as Ray-Ban and Oakley. The new Meta Glasses are approximately $80 cheaper than those earlier models. Interestingly, despite their lower price, the new glasses include nearly all of the advanced technologies found in previous versions.

Meta has introduced three models:

• Meta Adventure
• Meta Fury
• Starfire Kylie Edition

The last model was developed in collaboration with celebrity. According to Meta, the starting price of the new smart glasses is $299 (£269) making them about $80 less expensive than the previous generation. Industry observers view the lower price as part of Meta’s strategy to further strengthen its market position.

The glasses feature the latest Meta AI Assistant which allows users to interact through voice commands, receive information and get help with various everyday tasks. A company spokesperson stated that these AI features will also be introduced to older Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta models.

Features and battery life

The smart glasses offer:

• Up to 8 hours of battery life
• A 12-megapixel camera
• Support for 3K video recording
• A charging case that provides up to 40 additional hours of battery backup

Technology experts note that Meta has launched these products at a time when Apple’s own smart glasses are not expected to arrive until 2027. With a lower price point and enhanced AI capabilities, Meta is making a strong effort to maintain its lead in the rapidly growing smart-glasses market.
