Military officer Lt Col Laeeq abducted by BLA confirmed dead

Abducted Pakistani military officer Lieutenant Colonel (Lt. Col.) Laeeq Mirza has been confirmed dead by military sources, BBC has reported, with the search for his associate by Frontier Corps and law enforcement agencies ongoing.

According to media reports, the militant Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed the responsibility of abducting Pakistan Army officer Lt. Col. Laeeq Mirza, who was abducted from Ziarat, Balochistan on July 12.

According to reports, Laeeq Mirza was travelling along with his family and was abducted along with one of his associates on Tuesday night from Varchum area between Ziarat and Quetta.

The militant group BLA, on Thursday morning, had claimed the responsibility of abduction, and had stated that it was in custody of the military officer and a detailed statement would be issued later.

Media has reported that the associate abducted with Lt. Col. Laeeq Mirza is his relative.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has expressed grief over the death of abducted officer, and stated that it had created an atmosphere of terror.

Laeeq Mirza, who was serving in DHA Quetta, was abducted and taken to an unknown place on the road leading to Mangi Dam.
