Millie Bobby Brown has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of saying goodbye to Stranger Things after a decade on the show, revealing that the period following its conclusion left her struggling with depression.
To promote the third installment of her film Enola Holmes, Brown appeared on a live recording of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast in New York City on June 24. Speaking to the host, the 22 year old actress became emotional as she reflected on the difficulty of the months following the end of Stranger Things, which wrapped its decade long run on December 31, 2025.
She said the experience was very hard for her, adding that she did not expect to feel that way coming off the show, since she describes herself as a generally happy go lucky person. Brown also spoke about reaching out to her castmates, including Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Winona Ryder and David Harbour, in an effort to reassure herself that their bond would continue beyond the show. She recalled telling them she hoped they were still friends and apologising if she had ever upset anyone, saying that after ten years together, she considered them family. She also described visiting a beach shortly after the show ended, saying that despite the beautiful setting, she simply sat there crying through what was a very difficult time for her.
Brown also reflected on what playing Eleven meant to her personally, saying she began the role at age 10 and that the character and her castmates became a bigger part of her daily life than even her own family during that period. She said saying goodbye after ten years was deeply emotional, and that she will miss playing Eleven more than anything.
A day after sharing those reflections, Brown made a striking appearance at the world premiere of Enola Holmes 3 on June 25 at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, where she reunited with her real life best friend and former co-star Noah Schnapp, who played Will Byers in Stranger Things. Brown wore an ice blue, floor length satin gown with a fitted bodice and a knife pleated skirt, paired with a diamond collar necklace and soft curled half updo. Schnapp joined her on the red carpet in a black suit and white shirt before the two shared a warm hug.
According to Netflix’s official fan brand Tudum, Enola Holmes 3 follows the young detective as she travels to Malta, where she discovers that Sherlock has been kidnapped just as she is set to marry Lord Tewkesbury, all while navigating her own complicated feelings about marriage. The film also stars Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, Adeel Akhtar and Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and is set to premiere worldwide on July 1, 2026, before streaming on Netflix.
