“If you love someone, you say it. Otherwise, you lose the moment.”
This dialogue lies at the heart of the film “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” But is the statement really true? Sometimes it may reach a negative reaction.
Maybe the one you are in love with is in love with someone else, and somebody is out there to love you with their heart and soul. You just have to be on the lookout for the person who loves you unconditionally.
And believe me, fate works in miraculous ways.
The movie is more about second chances. As Julianne (Julia Roberts) tries to keep Kimberley Wallace (Cameron Diaz) away from Michael (Dermot Mulroney she becomes a person who is vengeful and harms the happiness of others. Julianne is apparently in love with Michael, and she tries her best to keep Michael from marrying Kim.
Soon enough, she recognises her fault and tries to patch things up between them. Will she be successful at doing so? Watch the film to find out. I will not ruin the suspense.
My Best Friend’s Wedding is a 1997 Hollywood film with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It falls into the genre of romance, comedy and drama. Despite the modest rating it has received, the film was a treat for the eyes.
Will Julianne eventually find her soulmate? George Downes (Rupert Everett) is Julianne’s closest friend and perhaps the one person who truly understands her. Their friendship is one of the film’s strongest elements. But could there be something more between them?
The soundtrack is wonderful, particularly “The Way You Look Tonight” and “I Say a Little Prayer.”The melody is soft, the lyrics are full of meaning and beautiful. I have to say, old movies and their music never lose their charm. The songs remain evergreen.
Julia Roberts is as beautiful and young as she appears. With a no make-up look and her wild hair, she comes across as a natural beauty. Her face is soft and kind, and she easily slips into the role she plays, perhaps because it comes to her naturally.
There is no pretence or facade behind Julianne’s character. She is what she is. And she’s not afraid to speak the truth or apologise for her nasty behaviour and ask for forgiveness.
The title speaks volumes about the content in the film, My Best Friend’s Wedding!!! Julianne and Kim really are best buddies. Who will finally be with Michael? Julianne or Kim?
The costumes worn are beautiful. The lavender dress that Julianne wears is elegant and has a panache of its own. Who will marry Julianne? George or Michael?
Overall, the cinematography is great. The visuals are sharp, and the setting complements the theme.
To conclude, My Best Friend’s Wedding is a light-hearted and entertaining watch. If you are in a romantic mood and just want to chill out with your spouse or partner or friend then this movie is definitely for you. Sit back in front of the TV with a bag of popcorn and enjoy. Wrapped in the warmth of the quilt, you will feel the warmth in the movie. My Best Friend’s Wedding is a must-watch. It should definitely be on your bucket list if you haven’t already seen it.
Hats off to the entire cast and crew for coming up with such an incredible film. Special thanks to the director, P.J. Hogan. Indeed, a very well-directed film.
