PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated inquiries against four senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders over alleged financial irregularities, including assets beyond known sources of income, benami properties and suspected corruption.

Those facing proceedings include Dr Amjad Ali, Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi, former federal minister Murad Saeed, former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Senator Azam Swati. The cases are at different stages, with notices issued to the individuals concerned to obtain information and relevant financial records.

Dr Amjad Ali

NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued five call-up notices on October 16, 2026, under Section 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999, in connection with the inquiry against Dr Amjad Ali. Implementation of the notices began on October 20.

The allegations include possessing assets beyond known sources of income, corruption and corrupt practices. Four witnesses — Bacha Syed, Muhammad Arif Shah, Siraj Ahmed and Naveed Ahmed — have been summoned to record their statements and provide documents between October 20 and 22.

The bureau has also requested comprehensive records concerning the allotment, ownership and payment of plots in Islamabad’s Eighteen Housing Society and the Jalozai Housing Scheme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Additionally, records relating to the service history, salaries and benefits of 22 employees of the KP Housing Authority have been sought. The Accountant General’s Office in KP has also been directed to provide details of Dr Amjad Ali’s salary, allowances, official privileges and domestic and international travel expenses.

NAB has warned that failure to submit the required documents could result in legal proceedings. The inquiry is reportedly connected to alleged irregularities during his previous tenures in the provincial minerals and housing departments.

Murad Saeed
NAB initiated an inquiry against former federal minister Murad Saeed on October 17 and issued a formal notice on October 19, 2026.

The allegations concern the alleged ownership of benami properties and investments in different businesses through suspected frontmen. The bureau has sought details of his income sources and information about a land purchase in Swat in 2020.

Ali Amin Gandapur

Former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur received a NAB call-up notice on September 22, 2026, seeking information about his assets and financial affairs.

Gandapur previously challenged the notice before the Peshawar High Court, arguing that the case involved Rs304 million, below the Rs500 million threshold he said applied under NAB law. The court disposed of the petition after NAB stated that the earlier notice had expired and no fresh notice had been issued at that time. The bureau also maintained that the amount involved could exceed Rs500 million.

Azam Swati

The proceedings involving Senator Azam Swati date back to June 19, 2025, when a notice was issued over alleged embezzlement exceeding Rs30 billion in Upper Kohistan. The matter is linked to the Kohistan mega-corruption scandal.

NAB’s Position

NAB has clarified that the notices were issued under Section 19 to collect information and documents. The issuance of a notice does not establish guilt, and the inquiries will be concluded on the basis of available evidence and facts.
