Now you can generate electricity with your footsteps

A British company, Pavegen has introduced groundbreaking technology that enables the generation of electricity from footsteps.

Unveiled at the World Future Energy Conference in the United Arab Emirates, this technology utilizes electromagnetic generators installed beneath tiles converting the movement of feet into electrical power.

Each tile contains an electromagnetic generator which becomes active upon the pressure of footsteps thereby producing energy. According to the company, this energy can be converted into electricity.

While the energy generated from these tiles may be modest, it can power street lights and charge small devices offering a practical solution for various applications.

In Washington, D.C., Pavegen’s tiles are currently being used to illuminate LED lights while in the UK they are installed in various locations to power monitoring stations and mobile phone charging stations.

According to Laurence Kemball-Cook, the founder of the company, the energy generated by walking on these tiles can be stored in batteries or transferred to devices. He further highlighted that these tiles have been deployed in over 37 countries and can even be used to gather data for gaming applications.

Additionally, the company is developing a solar-hybrid tile system which combines solar energy with the energy generated from footsteps. These solar-hybrid tiles are aimed to be introduced next year particularly targeting warm weather seasons.

Pavegen’s innovative technology not only offers a sustainable energy solution but also promotes the utilization of renewable energy sources in everyday settings. With its potential to revolutionize energy generation, Pavegen marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future.
