Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced on Monday that it has started oil production from its Bobi Deep-1 well in Sindh’s Sanghar district, strengthening domestic energy supplies at a time of rising reliance on imports.
The company said the well is producing 2,000 barrels of oil per day from the Massive Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. OGDCL had reported the discovery of oil and gas at the site earlier this month.
To accelerate production, OGDCL laid a 1.5-kilometre flowline connecting the well to the Bobi Plant, enabling early monetisation of the discovery. The company, which holds 100 percent working interest in the Bobi and Dhamraki mining lease, executed the project entirely with local expertise.
OGDCL said the new output will help reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil and aligns with national energy security objectives.
The company has expanded production across its portfolio in recent months. In April, OGDCL began commercial output from the Baragzai X-01 well in Kohat, which is currently Pakistan’s highest-producing oil well, delivering 6,100 barrels per day along with 18 million cubic feet of gas and 50 tonnes of LPG. In March, OGDCL commenced production from Pasakhi-13 in Hyderabad, Pakistan’s first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir.
Despite new discoveries, OGDCL reported an 11 percent drop in profitability to Rs115.3 billion in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year due to forced production curtailments. During the nine-month period, the company drilled 10 wells and achieved eight new oil and gas finds, further strengthening its resource base.
