RAJANPUR: One child has reportedly died and four other people remain in critical condition after allegedly falling ill from eating vermicelli in the Umerkot area of Rajanpur district.
According to Rescue 1122 sources, as many as 37 members of the same family developed serious health complications after consuming the food. The affected individuals reportedly included women and children.
Rescue teams shifted 30 patients to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment, while another seven were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Rojhan. Four of the affected people are said to be in critical condition, while doctors continue to monitor the health of the other patients.
Police officials said the family members told investigators that their health began to deteriorate after they ate the vermicelli. However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether the food caused the illness or whether another factor may have contributed to the incident.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the mass illness. Officials are also expected to examine the food consumed by the family and gather further information as part of the inquiry.
