Opposition leaders boycott oath-taking ceremony, protest alleged rigging in Sindh assembly inauguration

The Seven-Party-Alliance leaders have declared that their members will boycott the oath-taking ceremony during the inaugural session tomorrow. Leaders from the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat Islami, Sindh United Party, and other anti-Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) factions announced plans to stage a protest outside the Sindh Assembly during its opening session scheduled for today (Saturday) in Karachi. PTI’s Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh accused the elections of being ‘rigged’ in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and other parts of the province, stating there will be no dialogue with PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) as both parties benefited from the rigging. Sheikh lamented the loss of true leadership for the country due to stolen mandates.

JI Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman echoed the sentiment, stating that newly elected members of his party and PTI would boycott the oath-taking ceremony as a form of protest against the alleged fake mandate awarded to PPP and MQM-P across the province. He warned of expanding protests in the future. JUI-F leader Rashid Soomro indicated that they would join the protest led by GDA leadership, emphasizing that if peaceful protests were obstructed, they would not be held accountable for any untoward incidents.

GDA’s Dr. Safdar Abbasi labeled the General Elections 2024 as the ‘most rigged polls’ in the country’s history, asserting that opposition parties would never accept the results. Pir Sadderuddin Shah Rashidi led ongoing protests against the alleged rigging alongside other leaders in Sindh. Responding to queries about the role of his elder brother and chief of Hur Jamaat, Pir Sibgatullah Shah Rashdi, Rashidi stated that his brother would join the protests when necessary.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Liaqat Ali Jatoi, Dr. Zulfikar Ali Mirza, Irfanullah Marwat, Sardar Rahim, Arbab Anwar Jabbar, Rahila Gul Magsi, Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Mohammad Khan Junejo, Barrister Hasnain Ali Mirza, and others also attended the meeting at the residence of Pir Sadderuddin Shah Rashidi.
