Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to increase cooperation in food and agricultural trade.
Both countries are preparing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make trade in essential commodities easier and more efficient.
The agreement was discussed during a meeting between a Pakistani delegation and Bangladeshi officials in Dhaka.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) Chairman Asim Azim Siddiqui. The meeting was attended by senior officials from Bangladesh’s commerce and industry departments.
Pakistan showed interest in exporting rice, lentils, chickpeas, fertilisers, edible oil and other agricultural products to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s jute and jute-based products were also discussed as potential imports for Pakistan due to demand from local industries.
Officials from both sides agreed to strengthen the Pakistan-Bangladesh Joint Working Group. They also decided to increase trade delegations and improve cooperation in agriculture and industrial sectors.
The two countries believe stronger food trade can help improve supply chains and create new business opportunities for exporters and companies.
Bangladesh highlighted the importance of closer trade relations for sustainable economic growth. Officials said better coordination between the public and private sectors could encourage investment and expand commercial activities.
The upcoming MoU is expected to reduce procedural difficulties and establish smoother channels for government-supported trade.
Both sides are also working on improving logistics, aligning quality standards and exploring possible tariff-related measures to increase trade volumes.
The initiative reflects efforts by Pakistan and Bangladesh to strengthen economic relations and build more reliable supply networks in the region.
