The Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran has dismissed reports circulating on social media about Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui allegedly being attacked in the Iranian capital, calling the claims baseless and factually incorrect.
In a statement shared on X, the embassy said it had taken notice of the reports and categorically rejected the allegations. It clarified that the information being circulated about the ambassador was false and had no factual basis.
The clarification came after reports claimed that Siddiqui had been attacked by several individuals in Tehran. According to the circulating accounts, the ambassador had been invited to attend a gathering when the alleged incident took place.
Pakistan is currently playing a key role in diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict between Iran and the United States, which began on February 28. Islamabad’s mediation efforts previously contributed to an interim ceasefire arrangement known as the Islamabad MoU in June. However, the agreement failed to hold.
Qatar has also joined Pakistan in diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, which has disrupted international shipping routes and global oil supplies. The tensions have also extended to other parts of the region, including Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
A major obstacle to negotiations remains Iran’s nuclear programme. Washington wants the issue included in discussions from the beginning of any agreement to end the conflict.
Tehran, meanwhile, insists that its key demands must be addressed first. These include ending the US blockade of Iranian ports and lifting restrictions on its oil exports.
Iran has repeatedly rejected Western allegations that its nuclear programme is intended for military purposes, maintaining that its nuclear activities are not aimed at developing nuclear weapons.
