According to officials, the final call on whether current captain Imad Shakeel Butt will continue to lead the side is still pending. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has made it clear that performance and fitness will play a decisive role before confirming leadership for the World Cup squad.
PHF Joint Secretary Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui stated that the selection committee, headed by chief selector Olympian Samiullah Khan, will finalize the squad after evaluating players’ performances during upcoming assessments. He added that no captain has been appointed on a long-term basis, and decisions are made on a series-to-series basis depending on form and fitness.
Imad Shakeel Butt, a 30-year-old midfielder, has been leading the national side since 2024. He has represented Pakistan in 178 international matches, scoring 15 goals, and is regarded as one of the most experienced figures in the squad.
