Pat Cummins, Nat Sciver-Brunt named as Wisden’s Leading Cricketers in the World

Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, has been honored as the top men’s cricketer by Wisden Almanack, while England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt claimed the title for the leading women’s cricketer.

Cummins’ exceptional performance in 2023, leading Australia to victory in the World Test Championship final against India and securing their record sixth ODI World Cup title, earned him the recognition.

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth praised Cummins for his pivotal role in Australia’s successes, especially his crucial late-order contributions during the Ashes and his exceptional performance with 42 Test wickets.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was acknowledged for her outstanding performance in the Ashes, scoring three ODI centuries in five innings.

Additionally, Wisden recognized five Cricketers of the Year, including Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Starc, and Ashleigh Gardner, all Australian internationals who excelled in the Ashes series.

Khawaja topped the run-scoring charts, Starc claimed 23 wickets in the Ashes and 16 in the ODI World Cup, while Gardner took 12 wickets in the Women’s Ashes Test.

England’s Harry Brook and Mark Wood were also named Cricketers of the Year, with Wood’s performance particularly notable for his contribution to England’s comeback in the Ashes series.

Travis Head was honored with the Wisden Trophy for Test performance of the year for his decisive 163 in the WTC final against India.

West Indies’ Hayley Matthews received recognition as the leading T20 cricketer of the year for her outstanding performances.
