PCB refutes delayed payment accusation by FICA

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached out to the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) in response to the association’s allegations of irregularities in payments within the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The PCB refutes claims of delayed payments to players during the PSL, following a report by the International Cricket Players’ Union (ICCPL) highlighting instances of late payments to players across various major franchise leagues over the past two years. Reports of non-payment have been filed.

FICA stated that one in four players encountered payment issues in sanctioned leagues, citing reports of payment discrepancies in several major franchise tournaments including the IPL, Bangladesh Premier League, Lanka Premier League, Global T20 of Canada, and PSL, among others.

“FICA CEO Tom Moffat emphasized the significance of the proliferation of domestic leagues worldwide, providing numerous opportunities for player advancement,” read a press release.

Contrarily, PCB Director of International Cricket Operations Usman Wahla refuted the allegations while presenting factual information to foreign media outlets. Wahla stated, “There have been no delays in payments to any of our players in PSL Season 9, nor in the past. We have reached out to FICA to rectify inaccuracies in their documentation.”

The terms outlined in the PSL contract stipulate that players must receive 70 percent of their fee within seven days of their arrival in Pakistan, with the remaining 30 percent to be received within 40 days of their last league match.

This isn’t the first instance of controversy surrounding payments in the PSL. In the final stages of the 2022 PSL, Australian all-rounder James Faulkner accused the board of failing to fulfill his contract. However, subsequent investigations revealed Faulkner’s allegations to be baseless, as it was discovered that he had caused disruption in the team hotel. As a consequence, the PCB banned Faulkner from participating in future PSL events.
