Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Iran cannot be easily isolated because of its extensive economic political and security ties with neighboring countries.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for Turkmenistan Pezeshkian said Iran’s geographic position and its relations with 15 neighboring countries provide multiple channels for trade and other forms of regional engagement. He said Tehran intends to use these relationships to expand economic and political cooperation.

His comments came as tensions continued around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy shipments.

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said the security of the waterway depended on the readiness and determination of Iran’s forces. According to Iranian state media he described the maritime route as a vital component of Iran’s national security and said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy had played a key role in maintaining Iran’s presence in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian military officials also said the country’s armed forces remain highly prepared amid the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile reports in German media said Iranian intelligence services had focused on US military facilities in Germany including Ramstein and Spangdahlem. German and US officials had not immediately commented on the reports.

US President Donald Trump meanwhile said negotiations with Iran were continuing but suggested that reaching a deal was not his preferred option. He also said he expected the conflict to end soon and reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Separate reports said the White House had asked the Pentagon to prepare possible military options involving Iranian targets. The Pentagon said its role was to develop military options for the president but did not confirm specific plans.

Maritime security sources also reported a rise in attacks and attempted attacks on tankers around the Strait of Hormuz. At least 12 incidents involving oil, LNG and LPG vessels were reported between September 28 and October 5 according to maritime security data making it the busiest week for such incidents since the conflict began.

The developments have heightened concerns over regional security and global energy supplies.
