Playwright, satirist Shoaib Hashmi passes away

Shoaib Hashmi, a prominent Pakistani playwright and satirist, passed away on Monday at his home in Model Town, Lahore. He had been bedridden for 14 years. He is survived by wife Salima Hashmi, son Adeel Hashmi and daughter Meera Hashmi.

Adeel Hashmi confirmed the death of father Shoaib Hashmi.

According to Salima Hashmi, her husband had been bedridden for the last 15 years suffering from paralysis. He could neither speak nor walk by himself.

In the early days of television in Pakistan, Shoaib Hashmi’s programs were hugely popular, he was the creator of the popular TV programs Akarbakkar, Sach Gap, Tal Mutol and Bau Train.

Shoaib Hashmi was also associated with teaching in Government College Lahore for many years.

His demise has left a void in the world of performing arts, where his creative genius and witty insights captivated audiences for decades.

Born on November 2, 1945, in Lahore, Shoaib Hashmi developed a deep passion for literature and the arts from an early age. He honed his skills at Government College, Lahore, where his artistic talents began to flourish.
