ISLAMABAD – Public interest in Prime Minister’s “Apna Ghar” Housing Programme has increased significantly with the number of applications rising by 52 percent since June bringing the total number of applicants to 139,000. These details were shared during a meeting of the Access to Finance Steering Committee chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The meeting was informed that loan disbursements under the housing programme have also accelerated considerably. A 59 percent increase in the number of loans disbursed since June has been recorded. According to officials, the increase in both applications and loan disbursements indicates progress in providing financial assistance to eligible citizens and processing applications.
Agricultural financing surpasses Rs7.2 billion
The meeting also reviewed progress regarding financing for the agricultural sector. Officials said that the total value of financing approved under the agricultural scheme has exceeded Rs7.2 billion. The committee reviewed several matters including housing finance, access to loans and the implementation of various financial schemes launched by the government.
Support for citizens seeking to build or purchase homes
The government has described the “Apna Ghar” Programme as an important initiative aimed at meeting the country’s housing needs. Through the programme, subsidized financing is being provided to citizens for the construction or purchase of homes, particularly to help low- and middle-income families own a house.
