PM Shehbaz announces Rs100 per litre relief for bikes, autos and small cars

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced a special fuel relief scheme aimed at easing the impact of rising international oil prices on owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi vehicles and cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative was introduced after the recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East pushed global oil prices higher, increasing financial pressure on the public.

Under the scheme, owners of two- and three-wheeled vehicles will receive a fuel subsidy of Rs100 per litre on a monthly quota of 20 litres. Owners of vehicles with engines of up to 800cc will be eligible for the same Rs100-per-litre relief on a monthly quota of 30 litres.

The relief scheme will be implemented in phases. In Islamabad, the subsidy will come into effect from midnight on September 15, while residents of other parts of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will receive the relief from midnight on September 17.

The government has also started registration for the scheme, with details of the registration process to be communicated through a public awareness campaign.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government was aware of the difficulties caused by higher fuel prices and assured citizens that they would not be left alone during the challenging period.

He also thanked the provincial governments for cooperating in providing data on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles to facilitate registration and implementation of the relief programme.
