PM Shehbaz calls on ruling coalition meeting

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a meeting of parliamentary leaders from the ruling coalition on Wednesday.

According to local media reports, the meeting would begin at 6 pm to address the country’s overall political position as the government struggles on numerous fronts.

The summons was issued the day after the PM met with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, at the PM House.

According to the statement from the PM Media Wing, both leaders spoke on the overall political situation of the country.

The government is getting ready to name the new army commander since General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the current Chief of Army Staff (COAS), would be retiring on November 29.

The summary for the nomination of the top two military positions, COAS and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, has been delivered to the Prime Minister’s Office, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister.

Media reports suggest that the summary lists Lt Gens Asim Munir, Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Azhar Abbas, Nauman Mehmood, Faiz Hamid, and Mohammad Amir as potential contenders for the positions.

The coalition partners fully authorized the prime minister to nominate individuals by the established rules and traditions last week before the prime minister called the most recent meetings of the allies.
