PM Shehbaz meets top police officers as major police reshuffle looms

According to sources, the meetings were held as part of ongoing deliberations over a potential reshuffle involving senior police officers at the federal level.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned Islamabad Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi and DIG Sohail Chaudhry, Commandant of the Police Training College Lahore, to the Prime Minister’s Office for separate meetings amid consultations over possible changes in key police positions, sources told Minute Mirror.

According to sources, the meetings were held as part of ongoing deliberations over a potential reshuffle involving senior police officers at the federal level. The consultations have reportedly included discussions about the officers’ professional records, administrative experience and suitability for prospective assignments.

Sources said Ali Nasir Rizvi is being considered for appointment as Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), while DIG Sohail Chaudhry is among the names being considered for the post of Inspector General of Police Islamabad.

The officers were called to the Prime Minister’s Office separately and held discussions with the premier regarding their experience and approach to the responsibilities associated with the positions under consideration.

However, sources cautioned that no final decision has been taken so far. They said the matter remains confined to a limited circle within the Prime Minister’s House and the proposed appointments cannot be considered final until formal notifications are issued.

A source told Minute Mirror that despite the ongoing consultations, nothing could be said with certainty until the government formally announces its decision.

The possible changes come at a time when the NCCIA is facing an expanding workload related to cybercrime, digital fraud and online security, while maintaining effective policing and public safety in the federal capital remains a key administrative priority.

The NCCIA is responsible for investigating cyber-related offences and digital crimes at the national level. Meanwhile, any change in the Islamabad Police leadership would be significant for the capital’s law-and-order and policing arrangements.

A formal notification regarding the proposed postings is expected after the Prime Minister completes consultations and gives final approval.
