PM Shehbaz Sharif announces 150 buses for Karachi

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made an announcement during his inaugural visit to Karachi on Wednesday, revealing plans to allocate 150 buses for the city.

The decision came after Sindh Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, requested 300 buses during a high-level meeting with the premier. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal government would provide 150 buses to augment the existing fleet of the Sindh transport department.

During his visit to the Sindh government’s transport system, PM Shehbaz praised the efforts of the provincial government in improving transportation services for the public.

Regarding the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, the Chief Minister informed the prime minister about the revised feasibility study undertaken in 2023, as per the advice of the federal government. He urged the prime minister to facilitate the framework agreement for executing the KCR under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and to direct the railways ministry to grant the “Right of Way” (RoW) of the KCR to the Sindh government.

In response, the prime minister instructed the planning minister to address any obstacles hindering the KCR project’s progress and ensure its implementation.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Chief Minister’s House, was attended by federal ministers and officials, along with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and provincial representatives.
