Police arrest 67 suspected buyers of stolen goods in Karachi

Law enforcement authorities in Karachi conducted several raids and arrested a total of 67 individuals suspected of buying stolen goods.

Following directives from Sindh’s Chief Minister, the Sindh police launched a crackdown on buyers of stolen mobile phones in District West of Karachi.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for District West, Hafeezur Rehman Bugti, stated that stolen goods, including mobile phones and spare parts of stolen vehicles, were recovered from the shops and warehouses of the arrested individuals.

An investigation into the arrested individuals has been initiated.

Earlier this month, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed measures to monitor the sale of stolen mobile phones and vehicles in the markets of Karachi during the 31st Apex Committee meeting. The meeting also discussed establishing police pickets to strengthen security along the left bank of the River Indus and combat dacoits in the Katcha area.

Comparative figures for theft cases reported between January and April 2023 and 2024 show a decrease. In 2024, there were fewer incidents of two-wheelers and four-wheelers stolen, as well as fewer cases of mobile phones snatched compared to 2023.

Additionally, statistics revealed an increase in the number of vehicles and motorcycles snatched in 2024 compared to 2023.

During 2024, the police conducted 467 encounters, resulting in the death of 67 criminals, injuries to 489, and the arrest of 1766 individuals.

Furthermore, the Sindh CM instructed the IG Police to reactivate the Shaheen Force and deploy a dedicated motorcycle squad for patrolling hotspots during peak hours. Plans were also made to revamp Madadgar-15 and enhance the police force’s capabilities with additional vehicles.

The Chief Minister also directed the initiation of E-tagging for repeat offenders, starting with a pilot project involving 4,000 devices.
