PPP voices concerns, seeks action on AJK polls and coalition issues

ISLAMABAD: Details have emerged about a meeting between a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) delegation and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, where the party raised concerns over what it described as being sidelined in key national, parliamentary and political matters.

The meeting was attended by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah as representatives of the government. The PPP delegation discussed several political and parliamentary issues with the government team.

According to sources, PPP members expressed frustration over what they called the government’s continued failure to adequately involve the party in important decisions. They also conveyed their concerns regarding the recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and demanded an investigation into allegations of electoral irregularities.

PPP representatives reportedly warned that continued violations of commitments made by the government could make it difficult for the party to continue working alongside the ruling coalition. They stressed that the party expected the government to honour agreements and address its political and parliamentary concerns.

The PPP also called for a transparent investigation into what it described as serious allegations of rigging in the AJK elections. Party members sought assurances that the allegations would receive due consideration and that relevant authorities would examine any evidence presented.

In response, the government representatives said they were prepared to consider an investigation if the PPP provided concrete evidence supporting its allegations of rigging in the AJK elections.

The government team also assured the PPP delegation that it would address the party’s concerns regarding legislation and consult its leadership on important parliamentary matters.

The meeting comes amid growing political discussions within the ruling coalition, with the PPP seeking a greater role in key government decisions. Both sides agreed to continue consultations to address outstanding issues and strengthen coordination on parliamentary and political matters.
