President confers Nishan-i-Imtiaz on Indonesian Navy Chief

President Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Indonesian Navy Chief Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali in recognition of his services toward strengthening relations between the naval forces of Pakistan and Indonesia.

A special ceremony was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr to confer the prestigious award. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla members of Parliament and representatives of the diplomatic community attended the ceremony.

According to a statement issued by the media wing of the Presidency, Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali also met President Zardari, who congratulated him on receiving the high military honour.

During the meeting, President Zardari said Pakistan and Indonesia enjoy longstanding and brotherly relations. He stressed the need to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ navies.

The president highlighted the significant potential for joint development in the blue economy and maritime sector, stressing that this potential should be fully utilized for mutual benefit.

He also appreciated the Indonesian Navy’s regular participation in exercises organised by the Pakistan Navy. Indonesian Ambassador Lieutenant General (Retd.) Chandra W. Sukotjo accompanied Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali during the visit.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Navy chief also met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ). The meeting discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the existing military ties between Pakistan and Indonesia and reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on professional training, defence collaboration and joint military exercises.

The Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and brotherly relations with Indonesia, particularly in the fields of defence and security.

Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali appreciated the professionalism of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions toward promoting regional peace and stability.

The meetings and award ceremony underscored the growing defence and naval cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia with both sides expressing a desire to expand their partnership in maritime security training and joint exercises.
