Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived back in the United Kingdom with their children Archie and Lilibet, just days after reports emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex planned to relocate from California to Britain.
According to the BBC the family is believed to have travelled privately from California and landed in Birmingham shortly before midday. A source told the BBC that there did not appear to be a police presence when Harry, Meghan and their children left the airport.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment on the family’s arrival saying it was not something they would comment on.
The return comes after reports last week that Harry and Meghan would be relocating to the UK in August. However, the couple is not expected to resume official royal duties. Instead they are reportedly planning to live in Britain as non-working members of the Royal Family.
The family is thought to be preparing to live at a private property outside London in the Cotswolds. Their children Archie and Lilibet have reportedly been enrolled in school with the new academic term due to begin next week.
The couple’s pets are also part of the relocation arrangements. While their rescued chickens will remain in California, Meghan and Harry are reportedly bringing their dogs, Mia and Pula, with them to Britain.
The Sussexes stepped back from their roles as working royals in early 2020 before settling in California later that year. Since then they have established a life in the United States while continuing various charitable, media and commercial projects.
Their return to Britain represents a notable change for the family after several years away. Harry and Meghan have previously faced intense public and media scrutiny in the UK particularly over their relationship with the Royal Family and Harry’s security arrangements.
The couple’s planned move has also renewed questions about how their security will be handled while they are living in Britain.
For now, the family’s reported arrival marks the beginning of a new chapter with Harry and Meghan expected to establish a permanent base in Britain while remaining outside the official working structure of the Royal Family.
