PTI backs Jamaat-e-Islami protests, invites party to long march

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has announced support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s ongoing protests and sit-ins, signalling the possibility of greater cooperation between the two opposition parties amid rising inflation and political tensions in the country.

In a statement, Barrister Gohar welcomed Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s remarks regarding the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. He said the PTI supported the Jamaat-e-Islami’s public protests and would stand with the party in its campaign against inflation and issues affecting ordinary citizens.

Gohar said the PTI would support Jamaat-e-Islami’s struggle against rising prices, the petroleum levy and what he described as the exploitation of the common people. He added that his party would remain alongside the Jamaat-e-Islami in its efforts to highlight the economic difficulties being faced by the public.

The PTI chairman also said his party would formally invite Jamaat-e-Islami to participate in PTI’s planned long march on September 27. The move could bring the two opposition parties closer as they intensify their criticism of the government over economic and political issues.

The announcement comes ahead of Jamaat-e-Islami’s expected nationwide protests and sit-ins on September 20. The party has been campaigning against inflation and the rising cost of living, while also raising concerns over fuel prices and the petroleum levy.

Gohar’s statement indicates that PTI is willing to coordinate with Jamaat-e-Islami on issues affecting the public, particularly inflation and economic hardship. His comments also welcomed Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s position on Imran Khan’s release, potentially opening the way for greater political cooperation between the two parties.

The PTI has separately announced its September 27 long march and is now expected to formally approach Jamaat-e-Islami with an invitation to join the protest.
