Public suffers from butchers strike over poultry meat sales

Lahore: The ongoing strike by butchers selling broiler meat has left the public in distress.

The strike by broiler meat vendors in the city continues for the third consecutive day as they refuse to comply with government-fixed rates citing their disagreement with the authorities decision to issue rate lists at lower prices.

After a partial strike on the first day, butchers have resorted to a complete shutdown for the past two days. Various broiler shops in different areas of the city including Tollington Market and Kiraj Shops in Mughalpura are closed. Even the central broiler market in Tollington remains shut leaving residents dismayed over the scarcity of affordable broiler meat.

Citizens express concerns over inflation driving up the cost of broiler meat. They urge the government to address the issue seriously suggesting the removal of taxes imposed on poultry if farmers are facing losses.

Representatives of the Punjab Poultry Traders Association have halted business operations in protest. President of the association, Tariq Javaid points out the stark difference between actual prices and government-fixed rates. Despite negotiations with the authorities, the issue remains unresolved prompting traders across Punjab to refrain from supplying broiler meat until a resolution is reached.
