Heavy monsoon rains have affected several districts across Punjab, bringing widespread rainfall and raising concerns about possible flooding and water accumulation.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Rawalpindi received the highest amount of rain during the past 24 hours. The city recorded 130 millimetres of rainfall.
Attock received 79 millimetres of rain. Lahore Airport recorded 65 millimetres. Wazirabad received 50 millimetres.
Gujranwala and Jhelum each recorded 39 millimetres of rainfall. Narowal received 33 millimetres, while Mandi Bahauddin recorded 30 millimetres.
Gujrat received 19 millimetres of rain. Sialkot recorded 11 millimetres, while Murree received seven millimetres.
Heavy rain also affected Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The rainfall caused a rise in water levels in Nullah Lai. Warning sirens were sounded as authorities monitored the situation.
The latest rainfall has increased the risk of urban flooding and other weather-related incidents in affected areas. Authorities are closely monitoring drainage systems and vulnerable locations.
The PDMA said the sixth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 21. More rainfall could affect several parts of the province during this period.
The authority has directed commissioners, deputy commissioners and relevant departments across Punjab to remain alert. Officials have been instructed to closely monitor the weather situation and take timely action if conditions worsen.
Authorities have also urged residents to take precautions during heavy rainfall. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and stay away from areas vulnerable to flooding.
PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa particularly urged citizens to remain in safe places during thunderstorms and lightning.
