Punjab govt to put phase-wise ban on use of plastic bags

Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Provincial Minister, announced that a gradual prohibition on plastic bags will commence from June 6.

During a meeting with environmental expert Parvez Hassan, discussions revolved around enhancing Punjab’s air quality index (AQI) and addressing environmental challenges.

Aurangzeb highlighted the formulation of a smog litigation plan under the chief minister’s leadership, along with legislative efforts to combat smog and environmental issues. Additionally, Hassan presented significant proposals aimed at mitigating smog.

Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman expressed a commitment to the province’s development, emphasizing ongoing efforts across 28 projects. He criticized past governance, attributing shortcomings to incompetence and corruption. Rehman asserted that the development trajectory in Punjab halted in 2018, has now resumed. He thanked all legislators for their participation in the budget debate.
