LAHORE: The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC&MED) has ordered medical institutions across the province to verify all individuals residing in student hostels and ensure that residential facilities are occupied only by authorised students and staff.

In a letter addressed to vice chancellors, principals, deans, executive directors and medical superintendents, the department stressed the need to strengthen security and ensure the proper use of hostel facilities. It has also asked the Special Branch to independently verify the number of people staying in hostels.

The department directed institutional administrations to immediately check the credentials and allotment status of every hostel resident and remove any unauthorised occupants from student hostels and other residential facilities.

Authorities warned that involvement in any illegal activity would be dealt with strictly. Action could be taken not only against those involved but also against officials responsible for hostel supervision and administration if negligence is established.

All concerned institutions have been instructed to submit compliance reports by Monday, August 24, with the department declaring the matter an urgent priority.
