Qatar to employ thousands of skilled Pakistani workers following agreement with Islamabad

The Pakistani government has approved a preliminary memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Qatar’s Ministry of Labor and Pakistan’s Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, opening doors for numerous skilled laborers from Pakistan to enter Qatar’s workforce.

Historically, Pakistan had missed opportunities to export labor to Qatar due to certain overseas employment promoters monopolizing worker placements in Doha.

In a recent cabinet meeting, the Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Division highlighted the significant contributions made by over 300,000 Pakistani workers who migrated to Qatar since 1971, driving its socio-economic development.

Discussions also revolved around Qatar’s proposal for an MoU aimed at enhancing collaboration in labor mobility, focusing on sharing expertise in labor relations, inspections, and workplace safety.

After consultations with stakeholders and obtaining their input and no-objection certificates, consensus was reached on the draft’s content.

The subsequent meeting emphasized the prioritization of skilled workers from Pakistan, especially those proficient in high technology, IT, paramedical services, electrical work, plumbing, and other fields, for overseas employment.

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis was tasked with engaging community welfare attaches in Pakistani missions abroad to gather information on job opportunities and required skills in foreign countries.

The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) received directives to provide skills training aligned with job market demands in both Qatar and Pakistan.
