Rawalpindi: In the context of PTI protests, Rawalpindi has been turned into a container city. The city is sealed at 70 locations, and police check posts have been set up at 65 places where a heavy police presence is deployed.
According to details, the Murree Road Metro Bus Station near Rawalpindi Saddar Road has been blocked with containers, and containers have also been placed on both sides of the road at Muree Chowk. Containers were also placed on Murree Road near Moti Mahal before Liaquat Bagh Chowk, while the roads at Liaquat Bagh Chowk, Committee Chowk, and up to Faizabad were blocked with containers.
Peshawar Road has been blocked with containers at M.H. Chowk, Cheering Cross, and Qasim Market. All routes leading to Islamabad, including Korral, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Shakrial, Faizabad, Pandora Chungi, Katarian Chak Madad, Pir Wadhai, and Mor, have also been sealed. On the GT Road, Sawan Bridge, Nai Khan Bridge, and Chak Beli Mor have been closed as well.
Routes leading to Adiala Jail are also closed near Khawaja Corporation, Dheegal, and Jodyan. The motorway at Chakri Interchange, Thalian Old Toll Plaza, and M1 Toll Plaza are all blocked, as well as various locations on the GT Road including Taxila and Margala. The road over 26 Number Chungi Bridge has been blocked with containers.
All entry points to Murree Road have been closed, and the only open route to Murree Road is Chaudhry Sultan Road. Due to the proximity of Benazir Bhutto General Hospital, one route has been kept open.
All major and minor hotels and business centers in Faizabad have been closed, and even tea stalls in Faizabad have been shut, forcing people to walk from Shamsabad to Faizabad.
Similarly, on 26 Number Chungi, the road from Peshawar to Rawalpindi and vice versa has been closed with double-layered containers placed on the bridge.
Containers have been placed on the Kashmir Highway-Motorway Link Road, though one lane in each direction remains open for traffic.
A heavy presence of police and Rangers is deployed at 26 Number Chungi and on the Kashmir Highway-Motorway Link Road. Police vehicles for prisoners have also been parked. Rangers are present at 26 Number Chungi, but unlike before, there is no presence of Islamabad police.
