Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the protection of Islam’s holiest sites, with Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry declaring their security an absolute priority.
In an interview with Independent Arabia, the military spokesperson said Pakistan considered the security of the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madinah non-negotiable. He stressed that Islamabad would continue providing Riyadh with the support required to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“The Saudis’ sovereignty and territorial integrity, security, and foremost, the security of the Haramain Sharifain is paramount,” Chaudhry said, adding that Pakistan would continue to provide the necessary assistance.
His remarks come amid renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and growing concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
Chaudhry said the collective deterrence mechanism under the Makkah pact could come into play if diplomatic efforts failed and hostilities escalated. He indicated that participating countries would respond collectively to threats against Saudi Arabia.
The ISPR chief also said Pakistan was providing Saudi Arabia with necessary military support and remained prepared to use available means to help safeguard the kingdom.
Asked about the possibility of direct military assistance to Yemen’s internationally recognised government, Chaudhry said he was unsure whether Pakistan had received a formal request. He added that Islamabad would examine any request submitted to it and make a decision accordingly.
The statement underscores Pakistan’s stated commitment to Saudi security while leaving any potential decision on additional military involvement subject to the circumstances and the nature of a formal request.
