SMEDA, PMYP team up to boost young entrepreneurs

ISLAMABAD: A new partnership between the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme aims to make it easier for young entrepreneurs and small businesses across Pakistan to access financial assistance, business development services and relevant information.

The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Islamabad on Thursday, September 10, establishing a structured framework for collaboration focused on expanding outreach and improving awareness among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan and Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashood Khan.

The agreement is intended to strengthen coordination between the two institutions and help more entrepreneurs understand and access government-backed opportunities for business development and financing.

Focus on access and awareness

Under the collaboration, SMEDA and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme will work to improve outreach and awareness regarding available financial and business support.

For many young entrepreneurs, navigating financing schemes and understanding eligibility requirements can be a major hurdle. The partnership seeks to bridge that information gap by creating stronger links between entrepreneurs and relevant support programmes.

A key part of the agreement is the sharing of agreed data concerning rejected loan applications, including the reasons behind those rejections.

The information will allow both organisations to analyse recurring issues and identify areas where entrepreneurs may require additional guidance or support.

Such analysis could help institutions better understand why applications fail and where improvements in awareness, documentation or business planning may be needed.

Greater visibility for youth loan scheme

The organisations have also agreed to increase the visibility of the Prime Minister’s Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme.

Under the MoU, both SMEDA and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme will provide dedicated information slots about the scheme on their respective websites.

They will also establish reciprocal links between their online platforms, allowing entrepreneurs to move more easily between the two organisations and access information about available opportunities.

The move is expected to provide young people and small businesses with a more coordinated route to information on financing and business development assistance.

Supporting Pakistan’s SME sector

MSMEs form an important part of Pakistan’s economic landscape, providing employment and creating opportunities for individuals seeking to establish or expand businesses.

The new collaboration reflects an effort to bring government support mechanisms closer to entrepreneurs while improving communication between institutions working in the SME and youth development sectors.

By sharing data on rejected applications and strengthening online information channels, SMEDA and the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme aim to identify gaps and provide more targeted assistance.

The partnership ultimately seeks to ensure that promising business ideas do not lose momentum simply because entrepreneurs lack information, guidance or access to the right support.

With the MoU now in place, both organisations are expected to work together on turning the framework into practical support for young entrepreneurs and small businesses across the country.
