KARACHI : Surjani Town – Northern Bypass, the oldest kacha track connecting Hub, Balochistan to Karachi, has once again emerged as a hub of inter-provincial crime. Pakistan Rangers Sindh and West Police have busted a human smuggling network, arresting a *5-member gang of the Brohi community*, which was running a *”triple business” of human smuggling, narcotics, and arms from Hub to Karachi*.
*WHAT HAPPENED – OFFICIAL VERSION:*
*Spokesperson, Sindh Rangers (October 18, 2026 – 11:00 AM)*
Based on secret intelligence, a joint targeted operation was conducted in Surjani Town. Five suspects were arrested red-handed while they were about to drop two illegal Afghan nationals, *Yar Muhammad and Rasool Khan*, in Karachi.
*The Arrested Gang:*
1. Abdul Aziz Brohi (alleged ringleader)
2. Muhammad Bakhsh Dashti
3. Ali Hassan Brohi
4. Nadeem Brohi
5. Jameel Brohi
Three of them – Ali Hassan, Nadeem, Jameel – are brothers, sons of Haji Hassan Brohi. A family-run gang.
*Recovery:* Suzuki loader, arms, and narcotics.
*MODUS OPERANDI – INVESTIGATIVE FINDINGS:*
According to Minute Mirror’s investigation, this gang has been operating on this route for several years, but its business increased by 300% after the Afghan Repatriation Plan 2023.
*Step-1: Hub Safe Houses:* Afghan families are kept for 2-3 days in private hotels and Baloch settlements in Hub City.
*Step-2: The Kacha Route:* To bypass the main Hub River Road and checkposts, a 40-kilometer kacha hilly track of *Manghopir – Band Murad – Surjani – Northern Bypass* is used. This is the same route used for drugs and gutka smuggling.
*Step-3: Guides & Bikes:* Guides on motorcycles ahead of the loader – signal on wireless as soon as a police or Rangers picket is spotted.
*Step-4: Delivery:* Drop in Karachi’s Afghan Basti, Sohrab Goth, Ittehad Town, and kacha abadies of Surjani – Rs. 200,000 advance per family.
*NUMBERS:*
– In the last one month = *230 Afghan nationals*
– Average = 7-8 persons per day
– Earnings = 230 / 5 persons per family = approx. 46 families x Rs. 200,000 = *Rs. 9.2 million in just one month*
*THE BIG LINK – TERROR FACILITATION:*
This is the most dangerous part of this report.
The Rangers spokesperson deliberately added this line in his statement:
> “A gang of a similar nature has also been facilitating the transfer of suspects involved in terrorist attacks from Balochistan to Karachi.”
This means the Hub-Karachi human smuggling route is also being used to *bring sleeper cells of banned outfits like BLA and SRA into Karachi*.
It is worth remembering that just 5 days ago, on October 13, CTD arrested 4 terrorists (3 BLA + 1 SRA) coming from the same route with hand grenades.
*BACKGROUND – WHY NOW:*
1. *National Action Plan:* Checking on the Hub-Karachi border has been tightened after the federal government’s decision to repatriate illegally residing Afghan nationals.
2. *Street Crime in Karachi:* Police claims that 70% of street crime involves illegal residents.
3. *Double Game of Smuggling:* Arms and ice/heroin smuggling along with human smuggling in the same vehicle.
*WHAT NEXT:*
According to Rangers sources, the arrested suspects have revealed names of 2 more major gangs operating from *Hub, Winder and Sakran*. A joint operation with Balochistan Police and FC has been planned for them.
*CASE REGISTERED:*
– FIR No. 452/2026 at Surjani Police Station
– Sections: 13-RO Foreigners Act, 3/4 Anti-Human Smuggling, Arms Ordinance, CNSA
*This is a developing story. Minute Mirror Investigative Desk will continue tracking.*
