Summary
- Khadija and Tipu love each other.
- Tipu dreams of Khadija.
- Khadija wasn’t running from Tipu.
“Their connection deepened slowly, like a fragile flower unfurling petal by petal.”
This is how Tipu and Khadija’s relationship developed.
What fragile truth did Khadija fear to confess? Why did she hide it from Tipu? Why did she vanish from his life all of a sudden? These are questions that lurked in Tipu’s mind.
Tipu truly loved Khadija. He could not seem to get her out of his head. To try and evade Khadija from his heart and soul he diverts his attention towards political reformation. Tipu becomes a part of the Revival Front that pledges to wipe out corruption. He becomes part of the political reform movement.
As he tries to forget Khadija, he ends up researching child sexual abuse. With the therapist Meera, who Khadija also shared a bond with, Tipu organises movements and walks that spread awareness about child sexual abuse and help such children come out of the trauma they experienced.
As he partners with Meera, he comes across Khadija’s file. He is stunned and not sure if it really was Khadija who had sought therapy.
Khadija and Tipu love each other. But after the horrific episode of her childhood, she finds it hard to trust relationships. She thinks it best to distance herself from Tipu because she fears rejection. And so she goes to London to complete her studies and emerges as a powerful and fearless woman.
As Tipu goes with his friends on a trip to the Fairy Meadows, the most bizarre thing happens. Tipu dreams of Khadija. He hears her voice as he listens to the story behind Saif ul Malik. Is it really Khadija, or is he hallucinating? But the truth is hard to believe. Khadija actually is there. As the two come into close proximity to each other, the fragile truth is finally said.
Are Khadija and Tipu finally reunited, now that the unanswered questions have been answered? Can love withstand the weight of the past? What was Khadija running from? Khadija wasn’t running from Tipu. She was running from the memories of her past.
In the end, Khadija takes her revenge from the perpetrator of crime-Shahid uncle. She exposes his reality to his family and destroys him forever. Khadija has changed over the years. From being a timid and shy girl, she has now emerged as a bold and daring woman.
The novel is called The Fragile Truth because some truths are difficult to speak. Some are difficult to hear. And some can change a life forever. The novel is a love story with a devastating secret.
To conclude, The Fragile Truth is an emotional, thought-provoking fiction which makes the reader feel right at home.
Written by Muhammad Kamran Rifat, the novel has been published by Auraq Publications. Rifat has also authored 3 more novels, Inquest, The Broken Cup and Blissful Intrigue. All his books are a delight to read. Rifat holds a Master’s in Creative Writing from Kingston University in London and has a strong academic background with a passion for creative expression.
The Fragile Truth is a light and entertaining read. Each chapter is dedicated to the protagonists-Khadijah and Tipu. Despite there being a lot of repetition, the novel manages to hold the reader’s attention to the very last page. Rifat has indeed studied the reasons behind and the trauma of child abuse. It is a well-researched novel on both the societal ills and political corruption and complications as well.
I would like to end on a note with a quote from the book:
“To find her, Tipu must first uncover the world.”
This is the test of true love! The Fragile Truth promises to expose the perpetrator and give a voice and justice to the victim!
Hats off to Rifat for penning such a beautiful novel!
