WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying he is prepared to offer Tehran one final opportunity to reach an agreement before considering what he described as “destructive action.”

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said ongoing discussions with Iran were taking place at Tehran’s request. He added that the diplomatic efforts were being supported by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and several other countries seeking to help facilitate negotiations.

Trump stressed that the current talks represent what he believes is Iran’s last opportunity to secure a favorable agreement. While expressing hope that Tehran would choose diplomacy, he cautioned that failure to reach a deal would have severe consequences.

“I want to give Iran every possible chance before any destructive action is considered,” Trump said, adding that he remains hopeful Iran will make what he called the “right decision.” He also acknowledged there had been signs of progress but insisted the window for an agreement would not remain open indefinitely.

The US president also addressed security in the Strait of Hormuz, rejecting any possibility of Iran imposing charges on commercial vessels using the strategic waterway. Trump said freedom of navigation through the strait must be preserved and declared that the United States would not allow Tehran to collect transit fees from international shipping.

He further claimed that the US has the capability to ensure unrestricted passage through the vital maritime route, emphasizing that commercial shipping should continue without interference.
