SWABI: A man and his daughter were killed after the roof of their house collapsed during torrential rainfall in Swabi’s Topi tehsil on Thursday.
Two other members of the family were critically injured in the incident.
The incident occurred in the Azadkhel area. The family was reportedly asleep when the roof suddenly collapsed under the impact of the heavy rain.
The loud sound of the collapse alerted nearby residents. Locals immediately rushed to the site and began removing debris.
Rescue 1122 teams later reached the area and joined the rescue operation.
The deceased were identified as 50-year-old Mohammad Fareeq and his 28-year-old daughter.
Fareeq’s 45-year-old wife and their 30-year-old son, Awais, were injured in the collapse.
Rescuers recovered the bodies and shifted the injured family members to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
The incident came as heavy rainfall caused several building collapses and other emergencies across Swabi.
Rescue 1122 teams responded to multiple incidents linked to the severe weather.
A bank building also collapsed in the district. No casualties were reported in that incident.
Rescue teams also moved two people to safety from the Jarandu Nahr area. Five others were evacuated from Azamabad Chowki after conditions became dangerous.
More than 300 people have so far been moved to safer locations because of flash floods and landslides triggered by the intense rainfall.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert. People living near rivers, streams and unstable structures have been advised to take precautionary measures.
The Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rainfall in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until August 21.
The affected areas include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar and Mardan.
The weather authorities have also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying parts of Swabi.
