U.S. pledges support to Punjab government’s environmental initiatives

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to assist the Punjab government in addressing the pressing issues of smog and environmental degradation.

The assurance came during a meeting where an American delegation, led by Consul General Kristen Hawken, conveyed their readiness to collaborate on the environmental reform agenda spearheaded by Chief Minister Punjab.

Senior minister Maryam Aurangzeb, representing the Chief Minister, engaged in discussions with the American counterparts, focusing on cooperation across various sectors including education, health, and environment.

During the meeting, both parties delved into the specifics of their collaboration, highlighting areas such as transportation, shrimp production, and solid waste management.

Aurangzeb emphasized the provincial government’s proactive stance on tackling environmental challenges, citing initiatives like the ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign initiated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She underscored the importance of private sector involvement in complementing government efforts to enhance environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, Aurangzeb outlined Punjab’s ambition to become Pakistan’s first digital province, with plans to offer over 40 services at citizens’ doorsteps. The collaboration with the United States is expected to bolster these efforts and accelerate progress towards achieving the province’s development goals.

In addition to Hawken, the American delegation included Nicholas Cutsacks and Sadaf Saad, underscoring the comprehensive engagement between the two entities.
