UNICEF to provide $20m for youth projects in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif oversaw the signing of a significant agreement between the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) aimed at fostering equal opportunities for education and training among the youth.

The agreement, marked by a letter of intent, pertains to the United Nations Generation Unlimited (GenU) program, an initiative launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2018. GenU focuses on empowering youth through education, technical training, and entrepreneurship, with a particular stress on early education and training.

With an initial investment of 20 million Euros in youth-related projects, GenU is set to commence full operations in Pakistan. The signing of the document signifies a commitment to providing equitable access to education and training for the youth. Both GenU and the PM Youth Programme will collaborate on developing an operational strategic framework to realize this goal.

Earlier, a delegation from UNICEF, led by Abdullah A. Fazil, the representative of UNICEF in Pakistan, met with the prime minister. Chairman of the PM Youth Programme, Rana Mashhood, was also in attendance.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the prime minister on the collaborative efforts between the PM Youth Programme and UNICEF aimed at enhancing the capacity of youth in Pakistan. The prime minister commended UNICEF for its initiatives benefiting children worldwide, including in Pakistan.
