US Consulate in Karachi issues terrorism alert for city’s luxury hotels

The US Consulate General in Karachi has issued a terrorism alert for affluent areas of the city, prompting a temporary halt to all official and unofficial travel by American government personnel to these locations.

According to the Consulate’s statement, a heightened security warning has been issued for “luxury hotels” in Karachi, Pakistan. The notice reads as follows:

“The US Consulate General Karachi has received intelligence regarding potential terrorist threats directed at luxury hotels in Karachi. In response to such threats, the US Embassy and Consulates occasionally designate areas such as tourist spots, hotels, markets, shopping centers, and restaurants as off-limits to official US government personnel. Luxury hotels in Karachi are temporarily designated as off-limits to official US government personnel.”

US citizens have been urged to exercise caution when visiting such areas and have been prohibited from using public transportation and staying overnight in hotels across the country.
